Chicago Transit Authority 2014 New Flyer XE40 #700On October 28, 2010, the Chicago Transit Authority received a $2.2 million federal grant for the purchase of two all-electric, battery-powered 40-foot buses. The funding was provided through the Department of Transportation’s Transportation Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) II and Clean Fuels grant programs.
On June 13, 2012, the Chicago Transit Board awarded a $2.5 million contract for the purchase of two battery-electric buses to New Flyer of America, Inc.
The propulsion system for the buses was built by Siemens and is powered with lithium-ion polymer batteries.
The buses were delivered to CTA’s Kedzie Garage in June 2014.CTA_FlxibleFan
