Route 130 Origins
Route 130 was officially designated on September 12th 1988, but the origins actually date back to 1982 with route B (now route 14) to Oxford Valley Mall.
Brief Introduction to SEPTA Route 130
Route B (now route 14) operated as far north as Langhorne until September 3rd, 1978. This was the date route B was extended to Oxford Valley Mall via Langhorne. A few years later route B would have two routings to Oxford Valley Mall. Starting January 31st 1982 route B would have an alternate routing from Neshaminy Mall to Oxford Valley Mall via Hulmeville, and Oxford Valley Mall bound trips would alternate serving Hulmeville and serving Langhorne.
Route B would be re-designated as route 14 on June 16th 1985
The Neshaminy Mall to Oxford Valley Mall via Hulmeville trips would be replaced with a short shuttle between the locations on February 12th 1988, designated the route 14 shuttle.
Not even a full year later on September 11th 1988, the route 14 shuttle would be transferred from Comly Depot (district 1) to Frontier Depot (district 6), and designated route 130.
Route 130 History, 1988-Present
On September 11th, 1988 a shuttle service on route 14 that operated from Oxford Valley Mall to Neshaminy Mall via Hulmeville would be transferred from Comly Depot (district 1) to Frontier Depot (district 6) and re-designated route 130. This essentially would be the routing of route 130 until 2000.
On November 19th 2000, route 130 would absorb the Newtown Shuttle route 301 and be completely restuctured. From Hulmeville, route 130 would be re-routed and operate north via PA-413 to Newtwon Industrial Commons and Bucks County Community College. Service to Oxford Valley Mall would be removed from route 130, as multiple transfer points to service to Oxford Valley Mall from this new route 130 would now exist. South of Neshaminy Mall, route 130 would be extended and operate via Street Road to Franklin Mills Mall (now Franklin Mall), with limited service to Philadelphia Park Racetrack (now Parx Casino).
With the next schedule change January 15th 2001, route 130 would be re-structured to operate via Gloria Dei Plaza in Newtown, with service to Newtown Industiral Commons reduced to limited weekday service.
With the next next schedule change on April 15th 2001, limited peak hour service on route 130 would operate via Newtown Grant.
The limited peak hour service via Newtown Grant would be removed on February 11th 2007, and on the same date route 130 was re-structured to operate via Philadelphia Park Casino (now Parx Casino) at all times.
A southern extension of route 130 would come on October 30th 2011, where the route would be extended from Franklin Mills Mall to Frankford-Knights Loop (Morrell Park) and inter-lined with routes 129 and then-new route 133 (which replaced route 304).
Route 130 would operate virtually un-modified from then onwards.
Other Routes with the same numbers
Current Route 130 was the only route 130 to exist within the SEPTA and PTC network.
New Bus Network Changes
Route 130 is to be shortened to operate between Neshaminy Mall and Newtown. A new bus route 87 will replace the section of route 130 between Frankford-Knights, Parx Casino, and Neshaminy Mall. A new Bristol-Croydon-Cornwells Heights SEPTA GO Zone service will replace service along Bristol Pike. Dates for all of these changes were not given as of yet.
