SEPTA Metro T Lines
The SEPTA Metro T lines are named as such because they operate via the Subway-Surface trolley tunnel through the University City and Center City neighborhoods. After exiting the tunnel these lines then continue outbound to West and Southwest Philadelphia. Under the SEPTA Metro branding, the
lines operate the exact routing of former trolley routes 10, 11, 13, 34, and 36. Historically, these were the only trolley lines spared from permanent bus substitution through their entire history, though there was a few times the T1 was on the chopping block due to insufficient funding for the system.
The numbers assigned to the SEPTA Metro
lines are based on their orientation from north to south. with T1 being the furthest north (via Lancaster) and T5 being the furthest south (via Elmwood and Island Avenues).
- T1 operates via Lancaster Avenue to 63rd and Malvern. Former Route 10
- T2 operates via Baltimore Avenue to 61st Street. Former Route 34
- T3 operates via Chester Avenue to Yeadon or Darby Transit Center. Former Route 13
- T4 operates via Woodland Avenue to Darby Transit Center. Former Route 11
- T5 operates via Elmwood Avenue to 73rd Street or 80th-Eastwick. Former Route 36

Trolley Service beyond the Portal Stations.
From the Portal Stations, the
lines exit the trolley tunnels and continue westbound. Routes T2, T3, T4, and T5 exit the tunnel at 40th St Portal while route T1 exits the tunnel at 36th St Portal
Diversion to 40th St
At times when the trolley tunnel shared by the
lines is closed, the
lines divert over to 40th St
Station, and free transfers are provided to
trains for passengers commuting into Center City.
Overnight Service
Only routes T1, T3, and T5 operate overnight. Between the hours of 12:30am and 5:00 am, trolleys do not serve 13th St Station, so the last and first stop on all lines (including T2, and T4 during this time period) is 15th St/City Hall. On Sunday and Monday nights between 10:00pm and 5:00am, all
lines divert to 40th St
Station.
