SEPTA‘s 2010-2011 New Flyer DE40LFR are the last buses SEPTA recieved from a four-year contract with New Flyer Industries for forty-foot hybrid buses. The original contract was for 400 New Flyer DE40LF models, but as New Flyer discontinued the original styled Low Floor lineup in 2010, SEPTA opted to get the rest of the order as the “DE40LFR” model, with the R standing for Restyled.
Much like the previous batch of DE40LF buses, these would have the Cummins ISL9 engine, hooked up to Allison Hybrid Drive systems. However, unlike the DE40LF hybrid buses, these would feature a fully enclosed roof design, similar to that of the E40LFR trolleybus.

Upon delivery and acceptance, the first of these buses debuted on a route 101/102 (now D1 and D2) shuttle in summer 2010, and the first batch was officially assigned to Victory depot.
For the 2011 batch, New Flyer would make an ever so slight modification to the battery attachment and exhaust ventilation location, that would also result in the rear sign being moved closer to the door side of the bus, and flattened.
Between 2018 and 2019, SEPTA would switch out the cloth inserts on the seats of these buses, with plastic seat inserts.

- 8340 Would have USSC/4ONE Gemini Seating unlike the other units
- 8411 was delivered with special decals, noting it was the 1,000th New Flyer bus delivered to SEPTA. This was removed when it was overhauled
- 8450 was delivered with special decals, noting it was the 30,000th bus built by New Flyer industries. This was removed when it was overhauled
