History
Virtual Transit Center opened back in 2008 as “The Dash Forums” and existed solely as a community for transit enthusiasts to chat. Back in this time period, the site was maintained on a Forum service called “Zetaboards,” with a chat service maintained by “Xat.” Not surprisingly, this original variant of The Dash Forums was operated by Dash.
Around 2014, after gaining some footing, but also because the friends started to get more social, “The Dash Forums” was re-named to Virtual Transportation Center, to coincide with the more open community aspect of the site. This was also around the time period that OMSI and OMSI 2 mods for the United States started to take off.
In December 2016, the ultimate decision was made (with the assistance of another fan group, Porais Studios) to move Virtual Transportation Center off of the Zetaboards service and move onto a self-hosted site. This move would allow proper management of the growth that had exploded within the 2 years due to the OMSI and OMSI 2 modding scene. This was also when Virtual Transportation Center moved to vtransitcenter.com
In December 2020, the decision was made to officially retire the forum aspect of the site, which would free up resources on the server for the future expansions of the site itself.
The forum aspect closed in March 2021 officially, and to reflect this new simplified site, the name was also simplified to Virtual Transit Center, taking two syllables off the name overall.
To this day, Virtual Transit Center thrives to not only be a good transit resource site, but also a good fan-driven community.
