SEPTA Overnight Trolley Service Resumes Tonight

Philadelphia, PA Starting tonight, at 10pm, all SEPTA Metro Trolley service will continue overnight into the tunnel to 15th St / City Hall Station. Regular Sunday and Monday night diversions to 40th Street will still remain.

SEPTA Metro T shuttle bus for Winter 2025-2026

After the 2025 Trolley Tunnel Blitz, SEPTA discovered many faults in the trolley wires and sliders in the tunnel, causing all trolley service to immediately be diverted to 40th St starting November 7th, with a shuttle bus providing service to 15th St / City Hall Station beginning December 15th, 2025.

In Janurary 2026, service was restored into the Trolley tunnels, during the day, but remained diverted to 40th St overnight. Overnight, SEPTA crews would send pilot cars through the tunnels to inspect the wiring, and make adjustments to speed restriction locations durring the day. During this time, SEPTA would also have inspectors at the 40th Street and 36th Street portals, inspecting the trolley poles and sliders on each car before they enter the tunnel durring the day. There have also been inspectors at Darby Transit Center, Yeadon Loop, 61st-Baltimore, 63rd-Malvern, and Elmwood Depot, inspecting the trolley sliders and poles before vehicles would do their return trips durring the day. The inspectors at the these locations have stopped doing so since Sunday, and the ones at the 36th St and 40th St Portals are expected to stop doing to at the end of this week.

Make sure you’re ready to board your trolleys in the tunnels, as they will no longer be diverting to 40th Street overnight except on Sunday and Monday nights. The apps and website may not have this listed until June 14th

“Please note that schedule and real-time information may not be accurately reflected in SEPTA’s app or website, or third-party apps like Google, Apple and Transit until Sunday, June 14 with the start of the new summer schedules.” – SEPTA
