SEPTA Route T5 Trolleys Return to Island Avenue

Philadelphia, PA After three long years of rebuilding, SEPTA Metro Route T5 (former route 36) will return to 80th St/Eastwick Loop on May 24th, 2026
In Spring 2022, the City of Philadelphia started what is known as the “Island Avenue Improvement Program” which involved rebuilding much of Island Avenue, including SEPTA Metro Route T5 (former route 36), between Elmwood Avenue, and Suffolk Street.
During this closure, SEPTA operated a special shuttle bus service between Elmwood Trolley depot (73rd Street and Elmwood Avenue) and 80th St/Eastwick Station.
After the rebuilding was complete, SEPTA consolidated a few of the stops along Island Avenue for the SEPTA Metro Route T5 (former route 36). Originally, there were stops at…
- 80th St/Eastwick Loop
- Island Avenue and Lindberg Boulevard
- Island Avenue and 76th Street
- Island Avenue and Tanager Place
- Island Avenue and Buist Avenue
- Island Avenue and Elmwood Avenue
These stops will be consolidated into…
- 80th St/Eastwick Loop
- Island Avenue and Lindberg Boulevard
- Island Avenue and Tanager Place
- Island Avenue and Elmwood Avenue
SEPTA urges riders who previously used Buist Av or 76th St stops to proceed to the nearest Metro stops for service.
When full service on SEPTA Metro Route T5 (former route 36) returns to Island Avenue, all the remaining stops will be up to the new SEPTA Metro standards, with new platforms, waiting areas, and station signs, with the exception of 80th St/Eastwick Loop, which remains untouched.
