NJ Transit Train at Hoboken Station. This service will not operate during the strike

Edit: May 18th – The NJ Transit Rail Strike has ENDED

As of right now, New Jersey Transit‘s Railroad, the nation’s largest state-wide railroad operation, is on strike.

“Due to a strike by locomotive engineers represented by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET), all NJ TRANSIT rail service is currently suspended” – NJ Transit

This strike is massive, not just for the state of New Jersey, but for the entire Northeastern United States – as it marks a halt for major transportation operations to and from the city of New York, as well as some into Philadelphia. Two of the largest cities in the United States.

Contrary to popular belief, the union isn’t entirely to blame. Tensions were felt from both sides for the riding public even before the strike was announced.

New Jersey Transit has been posting some antagonistic flyers, prompting people to “voice their opinions” against the looming strike, instead of actually addressing the issues at hand

This is the first NJ Transit Rail strike since 1983, which went on for 34 days before being resolved. The last strike scare was in 2016, but was saved at the last minute.

Due to this strike, NJ Transit is offering replacement shuttle bus service, mostly parallel to the Northeast Corridor Line

No word on how long this strike will last, obviously. The ball is now in NJ Transit’s court..
